Quaich

"Slainte"

Strike hands with me, the glasses brim,

The dew is on the heather.

For love is good and life is long,

And two are best together.

The Quaich is an ancient two handled Celtic drinking vessel symbolising the sharing and trust between you and your partner.

It was traditionally used as a greeting between two clans or families as a public declaration of trust. If you were presented with the Quaich you had to use both hands to hold it, exposing your soft underbelly and leaving yourself vulnerable to being stabbed between the ribs or perhaps even poisoning. You are quite literally trusting the other person with your life!

Of course its associated mostly with the water of life (a wee drop o’whisky) but you can fill it with any drink of your choice a cheeky gin, prosecco or if you want the bairns involved you might fancy a drop of Irn Bru!
